Lake Houston Home and Garden show brings ideas for homeowners Feb. 16-17

Everything for the home: household products, gardening tools, home repair and interior decorations are just a few of them specialities the annual Lake Houston Home and Garden Show will feature.

This third annual home improvement, interior design and decorating tips and organization specialty show will be hosted by Lake Houston Area Events at the Humble Civic Center Feb. 16 and 17.

The show will also feature speakers, seminars and live do-it-yourself home repair demonstrations.

“We are very excited about this year’s Lake Houston Home and Garden Show because it continues to grow every year and we have some great vendors this year,” Jennifer Jozwiak of Lake Houston Area Events said.

With special features like “Shop at the Show” where vendors will offer cash and carry purchases of gifts, home décor, clothing and kitchenware; the “Go Green Zone” sponsored by Alspaugh’s Ace Hardware, where companies will help homeowners green up their life and their home; the Seminar Series, presented by Enstep Smart Home Solutions, featuring everything from DIY home improvement projects to home organizing and gardening tips from the experts – they have a something for everyone.

My Super Bowl party consisted of a break from my Scale Back Alabama routine in the form of a full-scale Cajun fest.

I made seafood gumbo from scratch, to-die-for homemade bread pudding complete with bourbon sauce and a batch of hurricanes, which I had to back away from in order to make it into my office by 8 a.m. Monday morning.

Before you think I’m simply bragging on the fact that for once I made a party spread from scratch instead of my usual package to cute platter routine – let me share my secret.

Pinterest.

For those of you who have yet to hear about what I consider the single best website I have ever experienced – let me clue you in.

Pinterest is an online pin board that lets you organize things you find on the web. It allows you to save a link for a website with a photo – a real bonus for us visual people.

It works much the same as a social network site, giving you the option to follow your Facebook friends or browse pins uploaded by other users and organized by category.

For instance, before my wedding I created a ‘Happily Ever After’ board – cliché title, I know.
