How To Refresh Your House This Spring

Now that spring is finally, definitely, here, the brighter sunshine can make your house look tired. Deep colors that felt warm and cozy during the colder winter months will appear heavy and drab once the temperature soars. And besides — looking at the same old-same old décor for 12 months can just be boring.

Some ideas have been around for years, but can still inject something new and vibrant into your house. And Tom Rouse, who spent the past three years making drastic changes to homes as a producer of the ABC reality TV show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” has a few ideas of his own. So think beyond the traditional rule that spring equals spring cleaning, and introduce more light, less clutter and brighter colors into your house to refresh it.

Examine the pillows on your couches. Are they dark green? A deep red? Many stores, including Marshalls, Pier One and Bed Bath & Beyond, sell pillows that are white, light blue or brightly patterned that would give your living room a new, clean look.
